bang out, again.

You already know what it is.

DJ Cavia, the motherfuckin’ champ from An Hui province.

Heatwolves, reppin’ Kalamazoo – the city that some Cali retards legitimately have never heard of, or think it’s some Dr. Seuss shit.

One of the tracks that got me through a summer in an office. Amazing album, go buy it on vinyl.

Mount Kimbie – Mayor

some birds

///////////////////////

Admittedly, prior to moving to Asia (three years ago!), I cringed at the sight of “crispy pigeon” on a menu. The only pigeons I knew were the ones who congregated outside the Carl’s Jr. on Market Street in San Francisco, always trying to steal my fries. They’re like flying vagrants. I didn’t want anything to do with them, let alone eat one.

But then, a friend from (where else?) Guangdong introduced me to the joy of snapping appendages off a crispy pigeon, rolling its little legs in salt and pepper, and working the meat off the bone. Now I order it anytime I’m at a Cantoneese restaurant.

I found a not-so-crisp copy of “Aretha Franklin’s Greatest Hits” on vinyl for a cool RMB10 last month, which reminded me of this fine tune.

Aretha Franklin – Save Me

get turned out on the couch

I’m playing R&B and soul tonight at Tara57. If you don’t know Tara, they do some of the finest cocktails in Shanghai and keep it remarkably unpretentious. Small space, classy speakers, plush couches.

Not spinning anything like today’s track, but it’s so hot I had to share it. Something like sexy drum and bass.

Die & Interface feat William Cartwright – Bright Lights (Radio Edit)

engrish time // pillow juke

Bought a new pillow the other day. Didn’t go with this one.

I just heard a rapper talking about dey’ spaceship again. Main, you’ ain’t got no spaceship d00d.

Anyone feelin juke music? Super fast (160 – 170bpm) ghetto-ass dance music from Chicago. Dancing is all about the footwork. Lots of repeated, pitch-shifted samples layered over lots of highs and super deep bass that comes in waves rather than knocks. The highs and samples do most of the work.

I already posted this classic last track, a straight up block-party rap banger. It fits in with the juke theme and it’s still hot.
