Beat Buffet Live

Big up to everyone who came out for Love Bang 3 on Saturday. Really happy that so many people made the right choice and came to Dada, rather than crossing over to the dark/wack side, i.e. armin van buuren at M2.

Because on the real, fuck trance music and fuck M2. Luckily that party acted as a strong Eurotrash-magnet and kept the riffraff away from Love Bang 3.

With that said, doing another party in two weeks. Different concept, but equally getdown.

Beat Buffet returns, this time with three live acts: The Horses (FR; Electronic, Jazzmin Records), Evil Einsteins (USA; Future-Rap), and Friend or Foe (Shanghai; Live Band – Dance Punk).

China DMC Champion DJ Cavia will cut up funk, hip hop, and rock jams all night as well, in between sets and after, and I might even drop some bangers on the late nite tip.

Saturday, Dec. 11th at Lune – 4th Floor, 218 Xinle Lu near Donghu Lu (next to 88…)

RMB40 Cover – RMB20 Beer (Tiger) and RMB35 Vodka Tonic

Over the next week I’ll post tracks by the artists performing at Beat Buffet. Today starts with a cut by Evil Einsteins. Anyone who saw this duo at MIDI festival or anywhere else this year know that they absolutely kill it. MC One Consciousness and DJ Maculate could make any DJ/MC pair in the galaxy feel bad about themselves. Two of my oldest friends in Shanghai as well – I’m proud to post this one.

Evil Einsteins – Bombs

tonkatsu = pork cutlet

Hands down my favorite Japanese food.  Sushi, sopa, tempura..that’s all fine, but nothing beats a deep-fried pork cutlet with rice, miso soup, cabbage, pickled veg, and sauce.

Tonight is Love Bang 3 at Dada. Seriously heavy tracks brought to you by The Uhhh and Heatwolves.

And since I’m just giving away bangers like these and not keeping them in the secret stash, you best be there.

Peverelist And Hyetal – Rrrr

Japanese TV: Part One

I spent part of my second evening in Tokyo  eating convenience store food and sampling some local television.

Japan is way in the future on the entertainment tip. Most Asian TV is pretty wack (Korean dramas where lovers die, Chinese war shows where lots of Japanese soldiers die, Thai dramas where everybody dies…) but Japan is on some other ish…

I couldn’t understand any of this, but seems like guest contestants wagered points/money on whether this monkey could, wielding a broom-sized toothbruth, enter a giant mouth and clean all the teeth while avoiding obstacles.

The food: Margherita pizza flavor Cup Noodles…so good.

Witch House…hah. Evil Beats, scary album cover.

chringish day 2

Might as well keep running with this theme.

Not sure what “goomy” means. Maybe like, so inhibited by sadness that trying to move off the chair feels like dog-paddling through impossibly-thick marshmallow goo.

Etymology aside, gonna post a few tracks from two kids I had the pleasure of meeting a few months ago when they played a guest set on my Tuesday night at the now-dead Logo Bar (RIP). Teengirl Fantasy are only like twenty years old and they study at Oberlin College, one of the only centers of knowledge/intellect in the state/wasteland known as Ohio. They play on hardware too; not laptop jockeys, these two.

You should probably buy their album because you need music like this for absurdly late nights. A soundtrack to the sun fully risen, normal people starting their normal day, and the sounds of cars overtaking those of birds.

Some of my favorite tracks of the year here.

Teengirl Fantasy – Cheaters

lost in translation

Way too late, need sleep. Just back from Japan. Brilliant; still processing the trip. Also need to post, so here’s a few tracks.

On the chill but still massive tip, these are. Listen to them loud on proper equipment. Huge landscapes going on here.

First track comes from the main man James Blake, on R&S Records. If you don’t know his CMYK EP, get on that. Along with Untold’s “Stereo Freeze” and Space Dimension Controller’s new shit, R&S is battling Night Slugs as my label of the year.

Second track comes from Soul Jazz Records, on their Future Bass LP. Loads of great selections on that. Just watched “Alien” and this track reminds me of that. Like, wandering around a mineral exploration ship floating through black space, the rest of the crew dead.

Might as well throw another one up. From the aforementioned Night Slugs, this ghosty banger by Kingdom.

bam!

Instead of apologizing for the complete lack of posts recently, I’m just gonna throw you three really solid tracks.

The Space Dimension Controller remix is a vinyl rip. Sorry, there’s no web release for this but it’s an incredible cut so I gotta post it.

This party next weekend will be epic. Playing some tastefully heavy jams. Neonstep, zombiecrunk, and other genres that don’t exist but will make you dance anyway.

I’m off to Tokyo for a minute, expect some updates from there.
