PROTECT DAT GREEN // RICK JAMES

I was up at Xujiahui Park playing some basketball yesterday when I saw this important sign. hadn’t done any sprinting in a long time. i threw up a bit.

first heard this as a young teen on the “Half Baked” soundtrack. played this at the Roller Disco a few weeks ago, went down huge. RIP to the man, Rick James.

SUND▲Y LOVE ▲FF▲IR TRACK ID //SAMPLE CONTEST!! 比赛

Yo, got a nice new track right here (not mine or anyone from Shanghai). To win the prize, you just gotta tell me:

A) The band this song samples

B) The name of the song that this song samples

Put your answer in the comments. If you’re first, and right, I will buy you a drink on Sunday night @ Dada – your choice. White Russian, Manhattan, Dark Beer…whatever.

Here’s the track.

SILKIE x LITTLE DRAGON / SLOW JAM ESCALATOR SESH

love this sign because it sounds exactly like 口语. like someone just transcribed a non-native speaker and made a sign of it. articles? naw, fuck that. no time for articles dr. jones. honestly i prefer this casual tone. wish more signs would talk like this…

also love this song. haven’t even heard the original. Silkie kills it every time. seriously next-level. no DL on this in hopes that you’ll buy it and Silkie and Little Dragon will get some money and keep making jams like this.

fun with foods/what are the ten treasures???

ate some soup last night cause i’m sick. i couldn’t afford the double boiled deer penis with ten treasures but was assured that it would “enhance masculinity,” i.e. it’s “good for man.” But honestly I ate some “good for man” soup one time (cow balls…) and I had sex like four times that night so I don’t necessarily doubt this.

some Friday tunes for you.

get it up

real quick post this morning, just wanna put some music up for ya’ll. Some dubstep and some…i don’t know but this mz. bratt track is really hype.

just downloaded so much music I shouldn’t have on my hard drive for a commercial gig on Saturday night at Ruby’s Club in Jing An (ladies drink for free…) MC One Consciousness and I used to skateboard in front of that club, back when it was CD Club. Pretty sure it was a mafia spot. Anyway I’m gonna play a lot of Nicki Minaj, and possibly (likely) some tunes I’m ashamed to play but no matter how much they pay me I will not play Black Eyed Peas. Even if the mafia dem come at me with their knives, gleaming in the lazers and sweat.

more on this picture later…gots to get on dat train.

hood dreams in hangzhou.

What up though. Hangzhou we are coming this Friday night – our first time doing Love Bang outside of Shanghai. So pumped to throw down at Code Space, one of the better venues I’ve seen in China. It’s a renovated warehouse with glass floors and a train that actually rolls around through the club. You can ride the train.

Big up to Elements for bringing us out there. I went out to their Halloween party (same venue) a few weekends ago and they got 350 people out on a Sunday night (!!!)

It’s DJ Caution, MC One Consciousness, and myself rolling out there on Friday evening. If you wanna make the trip to Hangzhou with us, holla at me – we’d love to have some friends from Shanghai join us.

If you don’t know what a Hangzhou is, it’s a “small” city (still like 6 million + i think) about 45 minutes from Shanghai by high-speed train. Round-trip train will cost you about RMB175 and you can get a cheap hotel or even stay in a bathhouse for less than RMB100 a night (with massage!). People say West Lake in Hangzhou is one of China’s most beautiful places, but the lake is too dirty to swim in so I don’t understand this..but regardless, the city is chill, and not a bad place to spend a much-needed weekend outside of Shanghai.

Some rap for you this Monday, starting it off with the second track from Slugabed’s set last weekend at the Shelter. When he dropped some Dipset I knew it was on. Produced by Araab Muzik.

Dipset – Salute

And a track off the new Drake album. Haters gonna hate, whatever. Drake comes pretty correct for a commercial rapper and I feel like he’s got a lot of creative control for a major label artist (he’s got Jamie XX producing one of the tracks, The Weeknd on a couple others..) Dude sums up his attitude pretty well in this Just Blaze-produced track when he says “Know that I don’t make music for [dudes] who don’t get pussy/so those are the ones that I found diss me or overlook me,” which goes pretty well with my friend’s comment “the biggest ‘get the fuck outta here’ goes to kids who act like rap died in ’96.” Fuck the backpackers.

new track by MC One Consciousness/other rappers get the sauce face

ya’ll know the boi MC One Consciousness (Charles) is the best rapper in Shanghai, foreign or local.

he’s rapping with DJ Caution and I tmmr night at Dada for Love Bang #10, so I threw him a couple beats to flow on and naturally he picked the Clams Casino beat (originally from Lil B’s “Motivation”).

Motivation (MC One Consciousness) by HeatWolves

that’s just a taste of what we’re dropping on this sunny Friday. we got the Love Bang #10 mixtape coming up later in the afternoon. Getting mastered as we speak..honestly no one is fucking with our mixtape game in this city, just wait. it’s full of original remixes, edits, and more.

r u listless?

Just a brief post this morning to share a track and some Engrish.

I saw Nosaj Thing play at Logo a few years ago. Was one of the best shows I’ve seen in Shanghai, and maybe ever. Super late pass on this, but I just found his remix of “Forever” by Drake yesterday.

My friend described Drake like this: “Drake is not even a rapper. He’s a Disney character. Literally everything he does has been decided in a boardroom, based on up-to-the-minute market analysis.”

True, Drake did come up on the teen show Degrasi and I heard he doesn’t freestyle, just reads lyrics from his Blackberry. And one of his mixtape covers shows him sitting on a hotel bed alone, wearing sunglasses, looking at his Blackberry.

That’s all wack, but I’m feeling this remix and some of his other cuts. Expect more crossover tracks from him with UK producers like Jamie XX and SBTRKT this year. Sorry about the 128kbs on this track, it’s not an official remix.

(glass awareness)/thoughts on love bang #8

big, big thanks + mad love to everyone who came out to Dada on Saturday for Love Bang #8.  also want to thank Mache from Layabozi, Tom and Greig from Shanghai 24/7, the homies at uDance, Michael and the staff at Dada, all the breakers, peeps from social interwebs, and of course, Caution, hBd, and Chuck D.

that party felt like a giant house party. Caution and hBd reminded everyone what a real DJ is, which is not some der playing boring house music with their head down.

With a few exceptions, DJs in Shanghai seriously need to step their game up. I’m included in peeps who need to step up said game.

a lot of people move to Shanghai, get caught up in the electro/house scene, and forget about hip hop, rock, and the other genres they grew up with. we’re trying to remind people about that music, and why it’s so good (e.g. you can actually dance with someone instead of spazing around them, girls like it…)

even when the police came around 2:45AM (too many peeps. too hype) and the music basically went off for thirty minutes, almost everyone stayed and talked until the beats returned…

we’re doing it again on August 20th, with Ceezy and another special guest. Plus, Love Bang meets Sub Culture at The Shelter on Saturday August 6th.

so thanks again, cause everyone who came out knows that was something special.

proper space disco refix of a classic Stevie Wonder track from 1966. poor boy meets rich girl story.
