Grafitti In Shanghai // Fantastic Mr. Fox

Music today from one of my favorite producers in the UK Bass scene. Fantastic Mr. Fox, named after the classic Roald Dahl book, sounds like a mix of other producers I like, e.g. James Blake, Hyetal, Burial, and Mt. Kimbie, with a bit more soul and influence from American hip hop and R&B.

His music feels rainy, melancholy, and pixelated, with a warm outer shell of pink light. These are tunes that work in the bedroom and in the club; not an easy task. The beats have that snappy, head-nod-inducing quality that a lot of UK Bass lacks.

His San’en double EP just came out on Black Acre. It’s a must have release. This is the most subdued track on the album, but since the sky is dark grey at the moment it’s fitting.
